The Civic Centre Court opened on Monday the 17 August 2020. The former Council Chamber was adapted as a Nightingale Court to allow Swansea Crown Court to be one of the first Crown Courts in the UK to recommence trials following COVID-19 restrictions.
Rooms were set aside for the Crown Prosecution Service, Robing Room, Witness service, Witness waiting room, Defendant waiting room, Staff room, Judge’s retiring room, Jury assembly areas and Jury retiring room. The Courtroom had installed within it a witness box, an amplification system, the IT systems and the Digital Audio Recording Transcription and Storage recording system.
