Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) is an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice who work with partners to carry out the sentences given by the courts, either in custody or the community.
The agency is made up of Her Majesty’s Prison Service, the Probation Service, Youth Custody Service and headquarters.
We are looking for an exceptional communications professional to join the HMPPS Communications team.
Job Description
The Digital Community Manager will be part of the HMPPS Digital Team and report to the Head of Digital.
This role will lead on coordinating and delivering content for HMPPS’s local and network social media channels as well as supporting the running of HMPPS national channels.
The successful candidate will drive innovative use of channels, data, stakeholders and creative content to ensure digital communications for HMPPS campaigns are joined-up, targeted and insight-driven.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the relationship with HMPPS local and network digital leads, including:
- Leading on implementing and developing local and network digital strategies
- Working with teams to plan and schedule content aligned to national cross-HMPPS campaigns
- Coordinating the delivery of ministerial priority campaigns through local networks
- Providing training on social media best practice and the Civil Service Code
- Producing content with leads for local, network and national HMPPS social channels
- Creating an evaluation process to provide regular updates for leads and feed into HMPPS national communications evaluation
Other responsibilities
- Work with the Digital Channels Officer and Digital Producers to run HMPPS national social channels, including planning, producing, and scheduling of content
- Be part of the social listening and monitoring rota for all HMPPS social channels
- Assist with monitoring the digital inbox and BAU publishing on HMPPS GOV.UK pages
- Have responsibility for the timely updating and maintenance of channel evaluation and baselines
Person specification
- Experience of planning and delivering digital communications in a large and complex organisation
- Strong project management skills, with demonstrable ability to work flexibly on multiple tasks and effectively prioritise a large workload
- Strong stakeholder engagement experience and the confidence to communicate persuasively with colleagues at all levels
- Keen eye for design and experience of producing graphics and video for social channels
- Experience in evaluating communications activities using online analytics and social media monitoring tools and from that developing key insights into recommendations

Flexible working hours
The Ministry of Justice offers a flexible working system in many offices, and requirements for particular working patterns will be accommodated wherever possible.
Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Security Clearance (SC)
