The Youth Justice Policy Unit is looking to recruit up to 2 SEO Account Managers on a fixed term basis up until 31 March 2025 or for existing civil servants on loan for up to 2 years with the possibility of extension.

Location:

Successful candidates will have the option to be based at one of the following locations:

  1. 102 Petty France, London
  2. 5 Wellington Place, Leeds (occasional travel between Leeds and London may be required post Covid-19)

Our staff are expected to attend their base location for at least 2 days per week.

The Work of the Youth Justice Policy Unit

We have two SEO Account Manager posts available in the Ministry of Justice’s youth justice policy unit, which is responsible for policy on children (aged 10-17) in the criminal justice system. The posts will sit in a new programme of work for the unit.  These posts offer an exciting opportunity to be at the centre of a challenging area of children’s social policy.

Account Manager - the role

The roles require effective partnership working with other policy and operational colleagues to deliver against programme targets and minsters’ priorities with the ultimate aim of improving outcomes for children who come into contact with justice system.

Responsible for:

  • Acting as main point of contact for programme participants, supporting them with reporting requirements and other grant obligations
  • Holding the relationship with certain government departments, ensuring senior officials remain apprised of programme progress and any risks before they become issues
  • Coordinating quarterly oversight sessions and ensuring prompt reporting to the programme delivery board and the grant manager
  • Supporting programme delivery leads to provide constructive challenge to participants and local service partners
  • Ensuring proactive engagement with participants, local authorities and service providers to unblock or escalate any emerging issues, working with colleagues in YJPU and across Government as appropriate
  • Responsible for briefing SRO, ministers and other senior stakeholders both regularly and on an ad hoc basis
  • Acting as policy lead on either the annual report, working closely with comms, frontline experts or the programme evaluation, working with analysts and external experts
  • Striving for continuous improvement in both programme delivery and structure, advocating for and delivering changes that ensure value for money, efficiency and best practice at every appropriate opportunity

Skills and Experience

Applicants will need to demonstrate their ability to work well with external (frontline) stakeholders, have an understanding of project management principles and be able to confidently engage ministers and senior officials.

Essential:

  • policy programme or local government experience
  • stakeholder engagement experience
  • understanding of project management principles and be able to confidently engage ministers and senior officials.
  • a strong track record in collaborating to deliver successful outcomes
  • a keen interest in criminal justice or policy for vulnerable children.

Desirable:

  • Experience working on grant funds
  • Project management experience

You will be assessed against the Civil service success profiles framework.

Experience

You will be asked to provide a CV during the application process in order to assess any demonstrable experience, career history and achievements that are relevant to the role.

You will also be asked to upload a Statement of Suitability of no more than 500 words stating what you would bring to the role, with reference to the Skills and Experience listed above.

Please note that interviews will be carried out remotely. During the interview, we will be assessing you on Behaviours and Strengths from the success Profiles framework.

Interviews are expected to take place towards the end of April possibly early May dependent on the number of applications received.
