The roles

We are looking for 2 x Project Delivery Managers (HEO) to join the Targeted Outreach and Research team. This team has responsibility for three pilot projects, aimed at improving judicial diversity within the Judicial Appointments Commission, Targeted Outreach and Research Team – Judicial Appointments Commission The Project Delivery Managers will support the Head of Targeted Outreach and Research (Grade 7) and lead the project strands, working at pace to manage a wide range of tasks that are often  complex and sensitive.

You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation, as well as external partners, to plan, manage and adapt your project management skills to support the JAC’s strategic aims, building key relationships with senior colleagues to influence decision-making. As the JAC has a statutory duty to select judicial candidates based on merit, whilst supporting the creation of a more diverse judiciary that reflects the society it serves, these will be key focusses of your project work.

You will manage oversight of your project strand and track progression, monitoring the risks and implementing mitigation where required. You will be delivering key objectives to both external and internal stakeholders, collating data and evaluating work at pace. You should relish the challenge of working in a small but dynamic team, collaborating with colleagues who are passionate about the JAC’s mission and be willing to get involved in policy and diversity work outside the standard role remit in order to support the wider team, including high priority projects and publications for the Diversity and Engagement team. 

About the JAC

The JAC is an independent body that selects candidates for judicial office in courts and tribunals in England and Wales, and for some tribunals with UK-wide jurisdiction. The JAC was set up in 2006 to maintain and strengthen judicial independence and to make the appointments process clearer and more accountable. Now in its 16th year, the JAC is recognised for its open, independent and merit-based selection of members of the judiciary. What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Head of Targeted Outreach and Research, your main responsibilities will be:

Project Delivery

  • Implementing and maintaining appropriate systems to enable effective planning of the projects into the wider Targeted Outreach and Research Programme, managing project components including scope, deliverables, timescales and resources whilst considering dependencies and constraints.
  • Preparing project performance reports and statistics, managing key project tools and capturing feedback to measure the impact of the projects, ensuring a consistent stream of high-quality content to support the JAC’s strategic aims and reporting against KPIs.
  • Seeking to continually and proactively improve the delivery of the programme, including small, agile projects to deliver new elements or improve existing components.
  • Supporting functions of various boards and focus on behalf of the programme, acting as a point of contact for governance and reporting.
  • Creating new long-term content to support strategic aims, such as candidate guidance.

Stakeholder Management and Communications

  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with existing stakeholders, providing advice, support and knowledge when needed, and updating on emerging issues and trends within the projects.
  • Provide regular updates to key partners, presenting findings verbally and in writing to a range of internal and external audiences.
  • Support briefings and draft relevant papers to senior colleagues, ahead of attending Commission Boards, meetings and presentations.
  • Lead liaison with digital colleagues to automate and streamline manual data collection processes. Make requests for enhanced functionality and development of bespoke reporting features. User test and track progress in context of project timelines.
  • Work alongside Communications colleagues to draft and coordinate content and stakeholder updates.

Data analysis

  • Work with statistics colleagues to quality assure methodology, data capture and reporting.
  • Develop and enhance the monitoring of data of priority policy areas, embedding data collation into existing processes.
  • Enhance continuous improvement of data sources and methods of data capture.
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly to a range of audiences and key stakeholders.

It is expected the successful applicant will have:

  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • knowledge and practical experience of different project management tools and techniques
  • strong IT and digital skills
  • strong team working skills and ability to work flexibly to support a small team
  • knowledge of implementing, monitoring and evaluating project performance against  strategies

Those applicants invited for interview will also be asked to complete a practical written exercise that reflects the work you might encounter in the role.

The JAC adopts a hybrid approach to working (where staff will be required to work in the JAC’s office where it meets the business need while also being able to work flexibly, generally at home. Successful applicants should therefore have to the ability and resources to work remotely.
