HMP Nottingham opened in 1890 as a city gaol but was reconstructed in 1912 and until 1997 served as a closed training establishment for adult males. In 1997 it re-rolled as a category B local prison, and now serves the courts of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. HMP Nottingham expanded in 2010 to hold 1060 prisoners.

As HMP Nottingham holds prisoners from the surrounding area, this allows prisoners to keep close links with their families, Offender Management services and agencies they engage with.   HMP Nottingham is committed to working in partnership to deliver shared outcomes that serve to protect the public and reduce re-offending.
