We are looking for an excellent communications professional to join the HM Prison and Probation (HMPPS) communications team in the Ministry of Justice to manage communications for the Prison Reform Portfolio.

The Prison Reform Portfolio is a large programme that will transform prisons, delivering a step-change in performance and culture, and ensuring they are recognised as an essential public service that provides a humane and rehabilitative culture. Accelerated adoption of technology will enhance services, change the way our staff work and improve operational efficiency. Through proactive collaboration with internal and external partners we will design and implement solutions that have long term impact. Our staff will be the best they can be, motivated and empowered to provide outstanding delivery for those in our care and the public we serve.

Your role will be to manage and support strategic and internal communications for the programme working to the Head of Prison Reform Communications. You will be responsible for researching, designing and developing a range of creative content, tool kits and events to support staff engagement. This role has a strong focus on internal communications and engagement but also encompasses campaigns, stakeholder management, digital and operational comms.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and customer-focused communicator with strong content production skills, and experience of supporting communications for large and / or complex projects or programmes. Experience of delivering internal communication campaigns in large and / or operational organisations is desirable.

This role will require close working with teams across MoJ’s Communications and Information Directorate and HM Prison Service. Good collaboration will be key to the success of the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Communications – Support the Head of Prison Reform Communications to research, develop and deliver the strategic communications strategy for the Prison Reform Portfolio including measurable objectives
  • Creative content – design and produce creative content based on audience insight that delivers behaviour change. Products will range from posters and leaflets to social media videos and imagery, and reports and presentations for senior audiences
  • Editorial – including drafting, copy writing and editing posters, leaflets, articles and other materials and publications
  • Insight – work with colleagues in MOJ and HMPPS to gather data and audience insight to build an evidence base for the portfolio’s communications
  • Evaluation – develop and manage ways to measure the impact of the portfolio’s communications and use this information to continually improve the way information is shared
  • Event management support – working alongside central team to develop comms for, and drive the delivery of, a programme of staff engagement
  • Communications advice - provide creative direction and best practice advice for communications across the programme
  • Delivering at pace – respond rapidly to business needs, and be flexible to changing briefs

Salary, Working Arrangements & Further Information:

Salary

Existing civil servants on level transfer will retain their level of pay unless this is lower than the starting salary as outlined in MoJ T&Cs.
