The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is a major government department, at the heart of the justice system. MoJ Commercial and Contract Management Directorate (CCMD)

CCMD is responsible for procuring the goods and services required for the delivery of the justice system, the total value of which each year is around £3.2 billion. In recent years, CCMD has conducted some of the most innovative commercial work in government and has played a crucial role in the successful delivery of prison reform and court reform programmes. The Commercial Standards Team in CCMD, in which the jobholder will sit, is responsible within the directorate for policy and governance, risk management and social value.

Responsibilities

The jobholder will be responsible for: -

  • Representing the views and interests of MoJ commercial staff to policymakers in Cabinet Office.
  • Communicating and explaining commercial policy to commercial staff in the MoJ.
  • Applying within CCMD the new procurement regime introduced by the Procurement Bill.
  • Maintaining the CCMD Sourcing and Contract Management Handbook and its associated guidance and templates and developing guidance on SharePoint.
  • Conducting compliance checks on key policies.
  • Developing expertise in particular areas of commercial policy and governance.
  • Advising commercial staff on government processes and working with relevant stakeholders to identify and address weaknesses in these processes.
  • Managing the Commercial Compliance Team mailbox.
  • Contributing to meeting CCMD’s objectives under the Commercial Continuous Improvement Assessment Framework.  

Experience

It is essential that the candidate has experience of:

  • Providing written advice to senior leaders on complex issues of policy and governance.
  • Working effectively both independently and as part of team.
  • Using interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • Balancing a heavy and varied workload.
  • Working with Microsoft Office 365.

It is desirable that the candidate has experience of:

  • Interpreting and communicating policy documents and/ or regulations, preferably in a commercial context.
  • Managing a corporate governance process, preferably in the public sector.
