The Ministry of Justice’s Private Office is a busy and interesting place to work, as it is the interface between Ministers, the rest of the Department and Whitehall. You will play a key role in a fast-paced and exciting environment where strong team working is required. We are a dynamic and supportive team, who provide a core service to Ministers and the department concerning correspondence of different types. You will work directly with Ministers, senior officials as well as a range of external stakeholders about the issues that matter to them.

We operate a reserve list.

Job description overview

Duties may include:

  • Responsibility for correspondence in a private office, ensuring that drafts are on time and in a fit state for the Minister to sign.
  • Liaising closely with officials within MoJ and across Whitehall, as well as parliamentarians and key stakeholders.
  • Maintaining accurate records of correspondence, including data entry and interpreting basic statistical information.
  • Anticipating and resolving issues, prioritising and escalating when necessary.
  • Helping out with day to day correspondence (and administrative) tasks.

Essential skills and experience

Being adaptable, friendly and persistent with a good eye for detail are essential skills for this role. Being able to consistently meet deadlines and targets is also essential. Previous experience of working with correspondence will be an asset, but is not essential.

Always work with focus and pace to get the job done on time and to a high standard. Follow the relevant policies, procedures and rules that apply to the job. Use own knowledge and expertise to organise work. Keep focused on delivery and take responsibility for the quality of work produced. Keep a consistent level of personal performance. Keep managers and stakeholders updated on how work is progressing.

Location of Post
