The Opportunity We are looking for a Litigation Associate with a strong background and/or interest in EU, Competition and Regulatory law to provide professional and legal support to the EU, Competition and Regulatory team and its broad range of clients. The successful candidate will be an Assistant with upwards of 2 years’ PQE (or equivalent) in Litigation who wishes to build a career at a leading City firm with a focus on EU, Competition and Regulatory matters. It is essential that candidates are self-motivated and enthusiastic about Competition law. The successful candidate will be extremely commercial in his/her thinking and approach and have the ability to cope with a varied and intellectually stimulating workload. Candidates will need to be pro-active and have the ability to anticipate the needs of the team’s clients. Skills/Knowledge Required: • Excellent academics and the ability to apply these effectively in the work setting • 2 years plus post qualification experience (or equivalent) within a reputable Litigation practice where delivering business solutions is just as important as providing high quality expert legal advice • High Court and Commercial Court experience is essential, and experience of the Competition Appeals Tribunal is highly desirable • EU, Competition & Regulatory experience is highly desirable, but not essential • Experience of juggling and anticipating a demanding commercial client base • Good interpersonal skills, including ability to present, persuade and work effectively in a team setting • Business development and client relationship skills • Experience in litigation and/or telecoms is desirable, though not essential. Abilities/Aptitude: • Highly commercial and entrepreneurial in approach • Rigorous intellectual approach to the law • High degree of innovative and creative thinking ability • Client-centred approach (client-focused both internally and externally) • Ability to take responsibility and act in a fast-paced environment • Initiative, enthusiasm, resourcefulness and a high degree of self-motivation • Comfortable in a target-driven environment where a self-starting and robust approach is essential • Pragmatic self-starting approach to tasks and projects • Flexibility and stamina to manage a demanding workload • Innate “business partner” model for building relations with clients • Lateral thinker and ideas-person Education Background: • Exceptional academics including excellent A Level results and a 2:1 from a strong university • Language skills desirable but not essential
