Yes to your first question. As to the credibility issue, certainly where the credibility of a witness is called into question, and is found to be such that would cause a reasonable and fair court to doubt the character and truthfulness of any evidence they provide the court then that would could have an impact on the likelihood of an appeal etc...can you elaborate without breaching confidentiality?

Contrary to popular belief judges ARE NOT above the law.

well lets hope you was a better jurer for them than the jury who freed my 18 year olds killer even though 100% guilty, personally i dont agree with jurers, especially in my sons trial, we got no justice for 18 stabbings with 2 blades.

The most likely explananation is that something of a legal nature came to light whilst the trial was going on.  This does not necessarily mean some evidence given by a witness.  There would have been a time when the jury was sent out so that the Judge could consider a matter of la., Ic could also be that some new information came to light and was, in the opinion of the Judge a reason to stop the trial.  Whatever the matter of law or the information was,  it is not for the jury to know.
